City of Mud

Chicago was known as the City of Mud before it became the City of Steel. A Stranger walking down the street in 1830 picked up a hat lying on the ground. Under the hat there was a head, buried up to the neck in mud, looking up. The buried man said “It’s OK, I’m still mounted on my horse. An excellent horse, he’s taken me out of worse situations than this one.”
